What do you do: 

Hi, my name is Eileen Collins, owner of Admin-On-Call, LLC (A.O.C.), Executive Assistant on the Run. A.O.C provides corporate-level office management and organization to professional businesswomen, small business owners, and entrepreneurs looking to grow their business. We help our clients to effectively market their business through providing efficient time management services.

What inspired you to start your business?: 

I've worked in the administrative field for over 30 years and had to standby and watch my sister close her business due to her inability to run her back office, promote, market, and engage her customers at the same time. I knew then that I needed to offer my services to others in need.

What's special about your business?: 

Our mission is to unchain our clients from their desks and mountains of paperwork while providing them the freedom to sell, promote, and market their products and/or services. We offer our services on an “as-needed” basis. Our goal is to help “start-up “ entrepreneurs become “extraordinary” entrepreneurs by providing executive-level administration on the run! We provide our services virtually which reduces our clients' expenses for maintaining a brick and mortar.

What have been the high and low points of being a business owner?: 

The high points have been watching my clients excel in their chosen industry while knowing I played an important role in their success. The low point was first starting and not pricing my services adequately. Lesson learned.

What have you learned from your experiences as a business owner?: 

I've learned that to succeed as a business owner, I need to be passionate about my business so that the lean times do not derail my journey. It is a road not to travel alone. Working with a team of experts is valuable because you don't know what you don't know.

SCORE has played an intricate part in the development of Admin-On-Call, LLC business journey. My first encounter with SCORE was in 1999-2000 while living in Richmond, VA. I relocated to Central New York and immediately connected with the Syracuse Chapter. I was assigned the best mentors (in my opinion) to guide me through the process. Joe Pagano provided me with marketing strategies and website redesign and Lynn Stern provided me with excellent business plan development and QB workshops to broaden my knowledge of the software. The one-on-one (when we were able to) counseling was the most helpful as it allowed us to develop the business relationship on a deeper level.

What's Great About My Mentor?: 

My mentors Joe and Lynn are the best mentors a striving entrepreneur can encounter. They partner with you and take a vested interest in your business. Knowing they have my best interest at heart encouraged me to always come to the table prepared. They are no-nonsense and will ensure that "YOU" are about your business and not about them doing your business. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to grow their business from the inside out.

What advice whould you give to someone thinking of starting a small business?: 

Recognize you cannot do it alone and be passionate about your product/service so that you always give 100%+ of yourself to the development and growth of the business.
